Revision Apps
Check out our top recommended apps for revision below, you can find out more about these plus more at the Revision Hub!
Gojimo
This is an app that uses multiple choice
questions to test your broad subject knowledge and highlight areas you need to
revise. The quizzes are specific to your course and exam board, and even
includes the new exam specification introduced last year. This is a good
starting point for revision if you feel overwhelmed and don’t know where to
focus your revision.
(Please note this app is now paid: £4.99 - Apple Only. Android is free)
Goconqr quizzes
This allows you to make your own quizzes using
a variety of different question styles such as true/false, multiple choice,
long answer etc. you can also add in an explanation to pop up if you
incorrectly answer so that you can see where you went wrong. The app allows you
to use pre-made quizzes by other users which is useful if you have a few
minutes to spare and want to refresh your memory of a topic.
This
is a mind-mapping app which is useful for students who may struggle to organise
their thoughts or structure essays. I have used this in the past to plan an
essay on the bus home from college so that I can get straight into writing the
essay and not waste any time.
Quizlet
This app allows you to create flashcards and
organise them into ‘sets’. It may be useful to create a set for each sub-topic
for each lesson for things such as key word definitions or key concepts. You
can then just look over them when you have a few minutes to spare and test
yourself, the app allows you to save your test marks so that you know which
words you are frequently getting incorrect and that you need to focus on
learning.
Focusnow
This is a timer app which allows you to select
the amount of time that you want to study for, the timer then begins. If you
exit the app before the timer finishes then you ‘kill your plant’ and have to start over. This app is
useful if you struggle to focus and stay away from the distractions of social
media.
Get Revising
Get Revising is a great website set up for
students and has forums, revision aids, advice articles etc. all tailored to
your level of study. They have recently released an app which allows you to
create a revision timetable, you simply insert the times you are free to study
between, any lessons you have, the dates of your exams/deadlines, the total
number of hours you want to revise for each exam, any holidays or commitments
etc. and it will produce a tailor made timetable using hour long revision slots
so that you can manage your time without feeling overwhelmed or cramming. I
have found this app really useful in balancing social life and revision.
